NASA+ will be available on Netflix soon

Netflix will begin streaming live NASA content—including rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, and real-time views of Earth—starting sometime this summer.

This new offering is part of a collaboration between Netflix and NASA, bringing space exploration content to a broader global audience without any changes in pricing for existing subscribers.

Introduction

As announced on 30 June 2025, NASA has teamed up with Netflix to integrate its NASA+ streaming service into the popular platform.

The content will include live coverage of space missions, astronaut activities aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Earth imagery, and behind-the-scenes science features.

All this will be available through the Netflix app to all subscribers globally, including viewers in Malaysia.

Importantly, the NASA+ content will remain free on NASA’s own channels, such as its website, mobile app, and streaming devices. Netflix’s inclusion is meant to expand visibility rather than replace existing access points.

What will be available on Netflix?

NASA confirmed that the following NASA+ content will stream via Netflix:

  • Live rocket launches
  • Astronaut spacewalks and onboard ISS coverage
  • Earth views from orbit
  • Science explainers and mission updates
  • Educational series featuring NASA personnel and projects

This will be Netflix’s first integration of a government space agency’s live content, reflecting a broader shift toward streaming real-time educational and scientific content alongside entertainment programming.

What about Malaysia?

For users in Malaysia, this update makes it easier to watch NASA’s biggest moments—no more switching apps or browsing external sites to stream space launches.

If you are already a Netflix subscriber, you will soon have access to space content right next to your favorite drama or documentary.

This move also reflects Netflix’s recent interest in expanding its live streaming library. While the company has experimented with live sports, comedy specials, and reality shows, the addition of science and exploration content shows a willingness to diversify.

For NASA, the partnership is a smart move to engage a younger and wider audience, especially those who may not follow traditional media or space agency platforms.

Availability and pricing

NASA+ on Netflix will launch sometime in summer 2025, though an exact date has not been confirmed. There are no additional charges or exclusive tiers required—NASA content will be included in all current Netflix subscription plans.

For Malaysian viewers, this means access is included even at the Basic or Mobile plan levels.

Meanwhile, NASA+ will still be available for free (and ad-free) on:

NASA's official website

NASA app on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV

YouTube (for selected live events)

Would you stream a rocket launch through Netflix now that it is built into the same app? Do you think this move will make space science more accessible to younger audiences?
