Recently, Netflix announced a full takeover of Warner Bros. That said, what should you know about it?
For your information, that includes television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO and HBO Max, as well as the entire library of films and TV series ever published. That means Netflix also owns famous IPs like DC Comics, Harry Potter, Hanna-Barbera and Game of Thrones.
The acquisition should be completed by Q3 2026
Additionally, Netflix paid $82.7 billion (~RM340 billion) for all of this in the form of stock purchases and cash payments. Barring objections from US antitrust authorities, the acquisition is expected to be finalised by Q3 2026.
This purchase is a bit of a surprise, as Paramount Skydance was previously seen as the company that would win the bid, as it wanted to buy the entirety of Warner Bros. Discovery without breaking up the company. Comcast has also shown interest, but at the end of the day, all the Great Houses of Westeros will have to bend the knee to the House of Cards.
Besides that, Netflix interestingly did not take over the spun-off Global Networks business. It consists of the entertainment, sports and news businesses CNN, TNT Sports, Discovery networks, the Discovery+ streaming platform and Bleacher Report.
