It was only two days ago that we reported there could be more subscribers than ever for Netflix. It's considered ironic since many expected Netflix to lose for cracking down on password sharing, but we now have the official numbers from the company's financial report here and it's a surprise.
According to Netflix's Q2 2023 financial report, the company managed to win 5.9 million new global subscribers. That's also including more than a million new subscribers in the US and Canada. Honestly speaking, that's more than what we imagined and if it wasn't for this report, we wouldn't have believed it either.
While there are membership cancellations anticipated by Netflix, the number of new subscribers has exceeded expectations. On top of that, the Extra Member feature that was introduced in every region contributed to revenue growth of 2.7% year-over-year. To refresh your memory, an Extra Member fee is RM13 per month.
The Extra Member feature was launched in May 2023 and while it got many people upset, it seems that the majority of users aren't really bothered (the numbers speak for themselves). Netflix will roll out paid sharing to almost all of the remaining countries and to read more about the report, you can visit the link right here.
