If you frequently use Netflix, this news might surprise you. Recently, Netflix announced it has removed its payment method from the Apple App Store. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, Netflix has started sending notifications to users who paid for subscriptions through the Apple App Store, asking them to update their payment methods to continue using Netflix's services.
The change has been confirmed on Netflix's support site and involves new or rejoining members who will no longer be billed through Apple. In some countries and regions, members using Apple Billing may be asked to add a new payment method to maintain their subscription.
It’s worth noting that Netflix gift cards cannot be used to reactivate these accounts. Although, the specific list of countries and regions involved has not yet been determined, at least the US market is included. This move will completely remove Netflix from the Apple App Store's payment system and no longer pay a certain percentage of revenue to Apple.
It is worth mentioning that as early as 2018, Netflix had begun testing new payment methods designed to bypass the Apple iTunes payment system. At the time, Netflix was one of the top-grossing apps in the Apple App Store. Before this, Swedish streaming music service provider Spotify also adopted a similar strategy to migrate subscribers from iTunes payment to other payment methods.
We have yet to confirm if Malaysia will be affected by this change. But, it will be interesting to see how Malaysians would react to this change. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly.
