About a year ago, it was reported that Netflix began tracking down users with shared passwords. According to some users online, they couldn't log in anymore with a new notification but ever since then, nothing has changed much until now.

In an effort to crack down on password-sharing, Chengyi Long, the Director and Product Innovation of Netflix just posted a blog post regarding the issue. While Netflix will continue to allow original users to share their passwords outside their households, you will need to top-up to do so.

Netflix is going to launch and test two features on password-sharing, starting in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru first. If you want to add an extra member to the Standard and Premium Plans, you can add up to two sub-accounts with their profile, personalized recommendations, login and password. The starting price for this is 2,380 CLP (~RM12) in Chile, 2.99 USD (~RM12) in Costa Rica, and 7.9 PEN (~RM8) in Peru.

Meanwhile, Basic, Standard and Premium plan members can also transfer profile information either to a new account or an Extra Member sub-account. After transferring, the cost should still be the same since you are adding an extra member. A reminder, these are just in the testing phase so there could be some new changes before rolling out globally.

While Netflix doesn't have a problem in sharing accounts, the company said that the way people has been abusing it is impacting its ability to invest in great new TV and films.
