Streaming giant Netflix is serious about branching out into the gaming industry and has announced that it will not just rely on third-party game teams for its gaming catalogue. Instead, the company is forming an in-house game studio based in Helsinki, Finland and aims to create “world-class” original titles.

Moreover, Netflix said that these games won’t have ads or in-app purchases, which is definitely a plus for many gamers out there. As reported by engadget, the director for the new game studio will be Marko Lastikka, who made a name for himself at Zynga and EA.

However, Netflix said that the internal studio won’t be releasing any games any time soon but may take “years” to bear fruit, as it usually is in the gaming industry. Moreover, this is the first time that Netflix is building a game studio from the bottom up instead of acquiring game studios and game developers.

Well, let’s see how Netflix would fare in the gaming industry in the future and whether its business model will be successful. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more tech news such as this!
