Netflix will start revealing how many people are actually watching its shows

Netflix is one of the most popular online streaming services in the world, but it’s always been secretive about how many people are watching a particular series or film. That’s about to change soon, well, at least in the United Kingdom as Netflix has announced it is signing up to the body that collates TV ratings in the country.

The rating agency in question, the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB) yesterday announced Netflix signing up to the body. In a statement, BARB further elaborated that it will be reporting Netflix’s streaming performance alongside viewing figures for broadcast TV in the UK from 1 November 2022.

The figures will show the total number of views for Netflix shows, as well as audience share and average daily minutes. Previously, Netflix has never revealed much about audience figures for most of its shows, but instead only revealed the 10 most popular shows on the streaming service or something similar.

Well, let’s hope that this will be the start of greater transparency from Netflix. Maybe the company will expand this to other countries as well soon?
