Just a few hours ago, Apple introduced the next generation of its AirTag item tracker, enhancing its tracking range and overall findability. The updated AirTag builds now deliver more powerful Precision Finding, a longer Bluetooth range, and a louder built-in speaker to help users locate lost items more easily.
The New Features
According to Apple, the updated AirTag has a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the same technology found in Apple’s latest devices, such as the iPhone 17 lineup and newer Apple Watch models. This chip enables Precision Finding to guide users to lost items from up to 50% farther away than before, using haptic, visual and audio cues.

An upgraded Bluetooth chip expands the overall connectivity range, making it possible to locate items over greater distances outside of Precision Finding mode. The built-in speaker has also been redesigned to be around 50% louder, allowing sounds to be heard from roughly twice as far as the previous generation. And for the first time, users can initiate Precision Finding directly from an Apple Watch, including Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models with the latest watchOS update, in addition to using an iPhone.
Find My Network Integration and Privacy Protections
The updated AirTag continues to leverage the extensive Find My network, which uses millions of Apple devices to help locate items that are out of range of their paired iPhone. The system is designed to protect user privacy by encrypting location data end to end, meaning only the owner can see where an item is located.

The AirTag also integrates with Share Item Location features, enabling users to securely share the location of a missing item with trusted third parties such as airlines. Apple has partnered with more than 50 airlines to support this feature, potentially reducing the incidence of truly lost luggage.
Sustainability and Compatibility
Apple has incorporated recycled materials into the design of the new AirTag, including high percentages of recycled plastic and magnets, and fully recyclable packaging. The device maintains the same familiar exterior design and is compatible with all existing AirTag accessories, including Apple’s FineWoven Key Ring made with recycled content.
The updated AirTag is available to order now from Apple’s online store and Apple Store app at the same price of RM129, with free personalised engraving at checkout. It retains the same pricing as the previous generation and requires a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest versions of iOS or iPadOS.
