New Apple iMac Pro revealed with VR creation capabilities for $4999

Aside from the newly announced iPad Pro 10.5, Apple also introduced a new series of iMac which are the iMac Pro and new iMac upgrades. The new iMac Pro is certainly a monster, possessing three variants based on a new Xeon processor and it’s designed for the pro-graphic and VR makers. Below is the official tech-specs:

  • 8 / 10 / 18-core Xeon Processor
  • Radeon Vega graphics
  • Up to 22 Teraflops half precision
  • Up to 128GB ECC memory
  • Up to 4TB of 3GB/s SSD
  • 2666MHz DDR4 memory
  • Turbo boost up to 4.5GHz
  • Up to 42MB cache
  • 4x Thunderbolt 3
  • 10Gb Ethernet
  • 1080p FaceTime camera

VR compatible

With such monstrous graphics specification, the machine is really meant for creating real-time 3D rendering, VR, real-time 4K video process and more. The price tag will be set at $4999 (around RM21313) and it will be available at the end of the year.

Moving on, the new iMac upgrades are now equipped with 7th gen Intel Core (Kaby Lake processors) with higher base and turbo frequencies in 10-bit HEVC decode. There will be three variants but based on two different sizes - 21.5-inch and 27-inch with 32GB and 64GB memory respectively. The 27-inch will get a special treat of having Fusion Drive, which they said it’s 50% faster than your average SSDs, along with 2TB of space. The three variants, on the other hand is based on graphics which looks like this

  • iMac 21.5-inch - Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640, with 64MB sDRAM, $1099 (RM4685)
  • iMac Retina 4K 21.5-inch - Radeon Pro 555 and 560, up to 4GB VRAM, $1299 (RM5538)
  • iMac Retina 5K 27-inch - Radeon Pro 570, 575, and 580, up to 8GB VRAM, $1799 (RM7670)
