While Huawei was having a prime time a few hours ago, Apple also did an event of their own and it was called Apple + Education. You probably saw a couple of posts here and there, so in this news, we are going to summarized what went down from Apple. From the new iPad 9.7 with Apple Pencil support to some free 200GB iCloud storage for students.

So first up, Apple announced another iPad 9.7 variant that comes with Apple Pencil support. Designed for educational purpose with pre-installed AR apps, Apple said this new model is their "most affordable iPad" yet. How affordable is it? Well, according to the Apple Malaysia website, it will start at RM1449 which is not too bad for a tablet. But for the Apple Pencil, it's sold separately for $99 (~RM381). If that's too costly, there's an alternative stylus called the Logitech Crayon at $50 only (~RM192).

Anyway, for the tech-specs side - it features an A10 Fusion Chip from the iPhone 7 series but with a 64bit desktop grade architecture. This means that compared to the predecessor 9.7 iPad, its CPU is said to perform 40% faster and 50% faster for the graphics. No wonder it can also support AR apps easily, as the iPhone 7 series has some difficulty running on that. The Retina display has a higher resolution as well just to support Apple Pencil and both cameras on the back and front have HD Video recording feature.

Will it come to Malaysia? Maybe, our country was not listed in the first wave so it's possible that we may be getting it in the second quarter of the month, perhaps May or later. If you can't wait, you can take a trip to Singapore and get it first.

Didn't think the AR would look this GOOD

Wait, there's more. With AR apps in mind for the new 9.7 iPads, there were a few impressive ones for students to take advantage of. This includes viewing a painting as close as possible, dissecting a frog with the Apple Pencil (a virtual frog, duh), as well as allowing teachers to send digital handouts and monitor their students with Schoolwork app. By the way, only the teachers will get to see their students' data.

Speaking of students, the kids are getting 200GB worth of iCloud storage for free and it can be claimed by the school, that's so much win

On top of that, Apple Pencil now supports iWork, Pages, Numbers and Keynote. This is a pretty big deal especially for Pages since it's the equivalent of Microsoft Office to Apple, which allows the user to write with the Apple Pencil, draw (even importing them), make annotations and even create books thanks to the multi-user / group editing feature.
