If you surf mainly European website or content, Telekom Malaysia just announced that the Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) submarine cable system is now live. This new cable promises better data transmission towards Europe.

The gateway is owned by a multi-company, multi-country consortium which includes Sri Lanka’s Dialog Axiata, UAE’s Etisalat, Oman’s Omantel, India’s Reliance Jio Infocomm, and UK’s Vodafone, as well as Telekom Malaysia. It spans 8000KM, and with a bandwidth of 100Gbps, the cable lands at Penang in Malaysia.

Apart from completing interconnection between global internet cable systems, the gateway is also TM’s alternate connection to Europe, so that it can help in managing traffic congestion as it serves as additional capacity for the company for data heading there.
