So just a few hours ago, LG has officially announced the G7 ThinQ mode. Pronounced as 'thin-cue' (not 'think'), no price and availability were revealed. And knowing LG's odd decision for not exporting their phones into Malaysia officially, it's unlikely that the G7 ThinQ will even see the light at the end of the tunnel on our shores.

Available in New Platinum Gray, New Aurora Black, New Moroccan Blue and Raspberry Red. The first thing you will notice straight away is the notch display, making it the latest member to join the notch bandwagon for the "maximum" viewing experience. Of course, there's an option to hide the notch like most Android phones.

You'd be also surprised to find out that the display is actually LCD IPS and not OLED, even though the glass grade is Gorilla Glass 5. The screen-to-body ratio is also 19:5:19 and runs on 3120 x 1440 resolution with a pixel density of 564ppi. Anyway, below is the official tech-specs:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64GB internal storage (expandable memory available)
  • Measures 153.2 x 71.9 x 7.9 mm, weighs 162g
  • 6.1-inch FullVision QHD+ display (19:5:19 aspect ratio)
  • 16MP (f/1.6) + 16MP (f/1.9, 107-degree wide-angle) dual rear camera, 8MP (f/1.9) front camera
  • Features fingerprint sensor, IP68 water and dust resistance, AI CAM, dual SIM slot, USB Type-C (reversible), QuickCharge 4.0, Qi wireless charging
  • Supports LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac, dual-band connectivity
  • Android 8.0 Ore
  • 3000mAh battery

Does it have any AI capabilities? Why, yes. Introducing the AI CAM, it's said that the software algorithm is able to detect more than one thousand objects. Unlike other smartphones, it does not rely on scene detection so, in a way, it's more flexible for photography shooting various scenarios. For example, if you're taking a photo of a plant, the software will produce the best photo accordingly, then if you're taking a group photo, it will switch to the secondary wide-angle camera.
