Apple may have updated the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models from last year with the Apple M4 chip, but already an update could be coming soon. According to a well-known source, the company could launch new models this year featuring the Apple M5 chip.
In his newsletter, Mark Gurman claimed that Apple has new iPad Pro models in the "advanced testing" stage. Mass production is expected to begin in 2H 2025, so the device could launch later this year. For reference, last year's iPad Pro launched on 7 May 2025. It features the Apple M4 chip, a tandem OLED display, and supports a new Apple Pencil Pro. Besides the Apple M5 chip, the iPad Pro 2025 isn't expected to sport any notable upgrades.
In addition, Gurman claimed that Apple will unveil new MacBook Pro laptops with the Apple M5 chip in 2025. Similarly, these models are not expected to receive design updates or new features. In our opinion, those who skipped the M4 models can wait for the newer MacBook Pro laptops later this year, as they could offer better performance.
Of course, there's also the option of buying the Apple M4 models when the M5 models are out. Apple typically slashes the prices of older models when the new ones become available, which could make them better deals. But which would you prefer, the Apple M4 or Apple M5 models?
