We know how you all love the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset series and we just got some juicy news. According to sources, the company is expected to release their next-gen flagship chipset - the Snapdragon 875. If the rumours are true, this unannounced chipset will be much stronger than we think compared with the current SD 865 chipset.

Under the codename SM8350 and reportedly to be manufactured by TSMC from Taiwan, the SD 875 chipset will be the first 5nm SoC and that's really tiny! If you know your tech stuff, the smaller the chipset is - the better the battery efficiency is. On top of that, this will also be Qualcomm's first chipset with a new X60 5G modem-RF, albeit it's unclear if the modem is integrated or optional. Mobile photographers will also be delighted to know that the image quality will be improved greatly, like the Spectra 580 image-processing engine and Adreno 665 Visual Processing Unit is able to encode and decode ultra high-resolution videos and images to the extra mile.

On the other hand, music lovers will also get to enjoy new audio technology from the new chipset. It's said that the SD 875 will feature a Qualcomm Aqstic Audio Technologies WCD9380 and WCD9385 audio codec, integrated with a low-power audio subsystem within. Below is a summary of all the key highlight features of the Snapdragon 875:

  • Kryo 685 CPU built on Arm v8 Cortex technology
  • 3G / 4G / 5G modem – millimetre wave (mmWave) and sub-6 GHz frequency band
  • Adreno 660 GPU
  • Adreno 665 VPU
  • Adreno 1095 DPU
  • Qualcomm Security Processing Unit (SPU250)
  • Spectra 580 image-processing engine
  • Snapdragon Sensors Core technology
  • External 802.11ax, 2 × 2 MIMO and Bluetooth Milan
  • Hexagon DSP calculation using hexagonal vector expansion and hexagonal tensor accelerator
  • Four-channel stacked package (PoP) high-speed LPDDR5 SDRAM
  • A low-power audio subsystem, combined with Aqstic Audio Technologies WCD9380 and WCD9385 audio codec

Should the rumours be true, the SD875 will be released by the end of the year. But considering the current pandemic, there's a good chance that it might be delayed until early 2021 so we shall see. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
