You may have noticed that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones are quite expensive. That's because the new chipset costs more than its predecessor. So, is there an alternative that is better but cheaper? Recent rumours say "Yes".
Well-known tipster Digital Chat Station recently posted a vague message about a "SM8635" chipset made on TSMC's 4nm process. For those unfamiliar with smartphone components, 'SM' is the prefix in Qualcomm chipsets. The '8' here indicates that it's a Snapdragon 8 Gen series chipset. It's speculated that this is a mid-gen upgrade for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, tentatively named Snapdragon 8s Gen 2.
Really wonder what the difference between SM8635 and SM7675 will be. They both show up looking basically identical, but.... I've never seen this happen with anything Qualcomm. Two model numbers for the same chip...

In related news, another tipster has spotted a chipset with the model number "SM7675". Some claim this to be the Snapdragon 8s Gen 2's alternate model number. But the AnTuTu score of 1.7m disproves this. For your info, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scores around 2 million. In other words, this SM7675 is probably a different chipset, possibly the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Mind you, this is all speculation at the moment, so take everything with a grain of salt.
For now, we can assume there's likely a new Snapdragon 8 Gen and Snapdragon 7 Gen series chipsets in the works. We'll post an update once we have more news. For other mobile tech news, stay tuned to TechNave.
