New Sony PS5 variant allegedly lighter and more power-efficient

Don't have a Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5) yet? Unfortunately, you're not the only one. After all, stocks have been limited in recent years due to supply shortages. But if you're planning to get one now, you might want to wait longer as a better variant is on the way.

If you recall, Sony announced a global price hike for the PS5 last week. On the bright side, the company is now releasing revised variants for both the disc and digital models of the console. These CF-1200 variants would not only come with reduced weight. According to YouTuber Austin Evans, they are also more power-efficient.

For reference, the original digital PS5 model is about 3.8kg and has a power draw of around 218W. The CH-1100 variant is lighter at approximately 3.5kg, but Evans showed that it drew more power at 229W. However, the new CH-1200 variant was noticeably lighter (~3.3kg) and more power-efficient (201W). The lighter weight probably doesn't mean much to most people, but a less power-hungry model is good news.

Of course, you'll have to ask yourself if the RM200 increase (to RM2069) is worth it. After all, you'd expect price cuts after a few years, not price increases. Let us know what you think about this in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
