New @X. Who's this? Elon Musk changed Twitter's iconic handle

It has been a roller-coaster of a month. Twitter users have braced wave after wave of changes made by Elon Musk. Yesterday, the CEO of Twitter did something that changed Twitter forever, in both literal and figurative sense. The iconic tweet handle for Twitter is now @X.

Interestingly, if you try to search for the @Twitter account, a locked Twitter profile page will display:

As expected, previous @Twitter tweets are all available under the @X handle. In addition, the Twitter Blue subscription service is now branded as @XBlue (Blue subscription) on the main description page. Most older official Twitter handles have also replaced Twitter with X. For instance, @TwitterSupport, @TwitterDev and @TwitterAPI are now @Support, @Xdevelopers, and @API.

It’s worth noting that Twitter is not even the first owner of the @X handle. That honour belonged to Gene X Hwang. A user from a photography/video studio called Orange Photography. That changed as of today, though, and Hwang tweeted from a new handle "All's well that ends well.

Earlier, we mentioned how the company was caught in a shenanigan when it tried to remove the Twitter logo from the San Francisco headquarters. But it does not end there, the upcoming weeks will be interesting because other companies like Microsoft and Meta also own an X trademark. And we don’t think they are just going to let this slide.
