If you think your camera should be a box that takes pictures – think again. Researchers at Columbia University are now working to produce a flexible sheet camera with stretchable lenses. They aim to create thin cameras that can be wrapped around surfaces – like cars or pillars. It is currently at a research stage, but the sheet lens array that may be used in a future camera has been developed to capture images when is wrapped around an object.

While the system is still in its infancy, the possibilities of it is endless, as this allows the camera to be applied to any surface, and all you need to do is to bend the camera to zoom in. In the future, you may just need to tweak the shape of your camera, rather than turning the zoom dial to achieve a close-up shot.
