For some reason, there is a surge of new e-hailing services in Malaysia. The latest player to come into the market is GV Ride (GVR). To make itself distinct from other competitors, it will introduce electric vehicle (EV) services in December. This marks the first company to offer such services.

According to the New Straits Times, GVR already already began its pre-operations in September. It is owned by GV Car Ventures (GVV) Sdn Bhd, which is already registered with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD). Kabeer Maand is the CEO of GVR and he is targeting 2,500 EVs to be deployed in Klang Valley.

It also seems that we would be getting EVs from China, as Maand said GVV is negotiating with Chinese suppliers for the first phase of EV integration on the platform. On top of that, GVV and Zlata Resources Sdn Bhd had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to offer insurance coverage to the drivers. Sejamas World Sdn Bhd will also offer free car batteries, while EV charging ports are supplied by Network EV Sdn Bhd and the Northern E-Hailing Drivers Association is a support partner in the northern region.

Apparently, 15,000 drivers have already registered for GVR and GVV plans to increase the number to 50,000 by the end of 2024. To celebrate the occasion, GVR is offering one million free rides worth RM15 or less.
