Game development has become more expensive in recent years but there are always companies out there looking to streamline development processes. Epic Games already unveiled its new Unreal Engine 5 some weeks ago and now it has a new iOS app that makes animating facial expressions much easier.
Yesterday, Epic Games announced a new iOS app called Live Link Face. Designed as a companion software for Unreal Engine, this app can stream high-quality facial expressions in real-time from an iPhone. Using both Apple's ARKit, as well as the front camera and TrueDepth sensor of an iPhone, game animators will be able to easily track faces and import the data received straight into a character created in Unreal Engine.

With this app, game animators don't necessarily need to use full motion-capture studios or equipment, at least when it comes to just the face. Epic Games says that this can be used by a developer right at their desktop. Of course, developers can also use it as part of a full motion-capture setup by using a special head mount. Overall, the idea is to make this part of the game development process easier for game studios.
Hopefully, this could result in cheaper games and maybe stop games from becoming more expensive. But let us know what you think about technology like this, could it be used for other industries like animated films? For more interesting tech news like this, stay tuned to TechNave.com.
