An exclusive new leak from reliable tipster Yogesh Brar claimed that we are nearing the release date of next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, starting with the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new chip, allegedly named Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is expected to be released as soon as May this year.

Apparently, major smartphone manufacturers have already gotten their hands on the new chip and it will be powering their devices this year as early as June 2022. Furthermore, Qualcomm's upcoming 700 series chips have also reportedly been received by manufacturers and may be powering mid-range smartphones by the end of the year.

The leak, shared by Yogesh Brar and onsitego also claimed that the new chipset will have the SM8475 model number and is based on TSMC's 4nm semiconductor fabrication process. Furthermore, it is also claimed that the process used is more efficient than Samsung Foundry's 4nm process.

Thanks to TSMS's more efficient process, Qualcomm is also allegedly planning to shift their flagship orders to the Taiwanese firm in the future. Of course, who wouldn't do so if the process can create more yield and stable chips?

As for the devices that would be utilising the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, the leak claims the list include high-end smartphones from Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus and Xiaomi. Other smartphone manufacturers may utilise the chip too but the four companies mentioned would be Qualcomm's first-phase customers.

However, do take in these information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet and until it is announced by Qualcomm itself, it will remain as a rumour. Nevertheless, it's pretty interesting to see how this alleged next-gen chipset would perform, especially against MediaTek, Samsung and Apple's mobile chipsets.
