Samsung is expected to launch a slew of smartphones within its A Series during the Galaxy A Event tomorrow, with the Galaxy A33, A53 and A73 all expected to make their debut. Rumours have been floating about regarding the processors of these devices, with many suggesting that two of the devices will feature a new Exynos 1280 chip by Samsung.

Now, a new leak regarding the chip points to it being more powerful than first suspected. This is after the Galaxy A53 5G was spotted in a Google Play listing that shows the device sporting an Exynos 1280 chip with the codename ‘S5E8825’ accompanied with 6GB of RAM.

Furthermore, according to a report by Sammobile, the chipset is built using a 5nm fabrication process and is very similar to MediaTek’s Dimensity 900 SoC, but with a higher clock speed. A further examination of the Exynos 1280 chip shows that it has two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz, six ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz and an a four-cores ARM Mail-G68 CPU clocked at 1000MHz.

Based on the information gathered, the Exynos 1280 has very similar performance to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G, which Samsung has previously utilised on the Galaxy A52s 5G. The latter has quite an impressive gaming performance for a mid-range offering and it looks like the Exynos 1280 won’t be no slouch either, with Samsung potentially using the chipset in more mid-range offerings in the future.
