For gaming consoles, new variants are usually made at least a year after it first launches. But Sony seems to have already started the ball rolling the PlayStation 5 (PS5). Specifically, there's apparently a new variant of the PS5 Digital Edition.

As spotted by PSU, Sony Japan has uploaded a new safety and quick start guide for the Sony PS5 Digital Edition (CFI-1100B01). The former lists the revised model at 3.6kg, which is 300g lighter than the standard Digital Edition. However, the dimensions for the new variant is the same. In other words, the reduced weight must be due to a smaller or lighter internal component.

Same dimensions but lighter weight, so what changed?

A textured screw so you don't need screwdrivers anymore

What we do know is that there will be a small change to the vertical stand. To be exact, the revised PS5 Digital Edition will be using a new screw for its vertical stand. This screw comes with a textured 'ring', making it possible for users to screw it in by hand. As you can tell, the changes in the new variant are mostly minor improvements.

Sony is expected to start retailing this in Japan this week, with a global announcement likely to follow soon. If you don't own a Sony PS5 yet, this might be a good option to go for. But what do you think, are the minor improvements enough for you? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for future updates.
