The Apple Event is just around the corner and the iPhone 16 series will soon be launching in Malaysia. It's safe to assume most iPhone fans will be upgrading but not for the reason of Apple Intelligence.
According to a survey report by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) done in the first half of 2024, respondents were asked on what was the reason to upgrade to the new iPhone. The number one reason was that the "old phone was obsolete", followed by a lost, broken or stolen old phone, and wanting the newest feature. The survey said that 44% of the first reason, are still using the iPhone 8 series and 1st-gen iPhone SE.
We are also surprised to learn that out of the six reasons (see the chart above), none of them even mentioned Apple Intelligence. The closest one is probably "newest features" but CIRP said it's only referring to an improved camera, display, or processor. Other reasons include carrier financial incentives, 5G capability, or simply because their friends and family have an iPhone.
Based on the survey, CIRP noted that the majority of iPhone customers are also very patient, especially those with broken devices. They told CIRP that they would wait for new models or reduced prices for older iPhone models. Most of them are also not really "compelled by the newest camera or processor or form factor or colour".
So what about those iPhone fans who tend to queue up outside of the stores? Well, they might as well be the minority. But what about you? What is the reason will you upgrade to the latest iPhone 16 series? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
