New vivo patent shows smartphone that has slider mechanism

A lot of smartphones have similarities these days, so we always appreciate seeing different designs that stand out from the norm. That seems to be what vivo is going for, as a new patent from the company was recently discovered. The patent depicts a device that comes with a slide mechanism.

According to the patent record, Weiwo Communication Private Limited (vivo Mobile) is the company that submitted the patent. From the images provided, it would seem that sliding the phone reveals the LED flash for the rear camera, which is a weird design choice if you ask us. The very act of sliding the phone should also activate the cameras, but we are unsure what else vivo could be trying to accomplish with the design.

In our opinion, a slide mechanism's most obvious use is to hide front cameras, so companies won't have to use the dreaded notch design on their phones. Oddly enough, that seems to be the idea here as the vivo patent doesn't show any notch on the screen. However, there's also no front camera even when the slide mechanism is engaged.

Of course, this is just a patent so it might not end up becoming an actual product. Still, we'd like to see where vivo intends to go with this if only to see something that isn't the common fare. Having said that, what do you think of the slide mechanism here? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
