There are all kinds of footwear in the market, some with more advanced technology than others. However, Nike plans to create a new footwear with technology that most won't expect in a pair of shoes. We refer to the recently announced Project Amplify, which aims to create powered footwear.
Amplifying athletes
According to Nike, Project Amplify will be the "world's first powered footwear system for running and walking". The plan is to create shoes with a mechanical component to enhance the movement of the wearer's natural lower leg and ankle. In theory, this would help the wearer move faster and for longer distances with less effort.
Enhanced by robotics
As you can see from the visual, the Project Amplify footwear has a contraption that wraps around the wearer's calf. Nike also confirmed that there's a powerful lightweight motor and drive belt involved, likely the components that enhance the wearer's movements. Additionally, there's a rechargeable cuff battery integrated with the shoe. Essentially, the shoe uses battery-powered robotics to help you walk or run without using as much energy.

Fancy footwear for the rich
In the announcement, Nike said that anyone with a body is an athlete. Sounds nice, but there's no way this kind of footwear would be accessible to the average consumer. Whether it would even be mass-produced remains to be seen.
Having said that, would you buy one if you could afford whatever price it launches at? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
