As the smartphone industry gets more saturated, the once-popular DLSR/SLR cameras have become almost a thing of the past. That being said, there were rumours of Nikon dropping SLR camera production so that the company can focus on mirrorless models. However, Nikon has quickly denied that.
On Nikon's official newsroom, the company announced that the original media article that started the rumour is purely speculation and there's no announcement regarding its SLR cameras. On top of that, Nikon also said that the company is still continuing digital SLR production, sales and services.
But what started this rumour in the first place? Well, nothing. However, Nikon has discontinued the D3500 and D5600 DSLRs to focus on mid to high-end cameras and lenses. In addition, a smartphone camera is a more popular choice than SLR cameras and is responsible for the decline. Mirrorless cameras have also been getting more popular over the years.
