Late last year, Terry Diebold made the decision to finally auction away the Nintendo PlayStation prototype that he had been parading around the world. The auction has since been completed and the machine managed to sell for USD 360000 (~RM1501740). This makes it the most expensive video game-related item ever sold.
As we've mentioned in our previous article, the prototype was auctioned at The Heritage Auction based in Dallas Texas. Back in December 2019, Diebold had mentioned that he turned down a USD 1.2 million (~RM5 million) deal for the machine and opted to auction it instead. If you look at it this way, he really should have just taken the better deal when it was offered to him. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
Although winning bid wasn't as high as some may have expected, it's another example of how old gaming memorabilia could spur collectors to spend. Last year, a sealed copy of the original Super Mario Bros sold for a whopping USD 100150 (~RM417776), while another collector paid over USD 1 million (~RM4.17 million) for a few old and rare games.
If you have an old game lying around, it might be a good idea to hold on to it. Maybe you could auction it off for big bucks someday, who knows? For more fun news like this, continue to follow us on TechNave.com.
