News and reports of the Nintendo Switch 2 have been going on for years. People speculate when the device could come out, but it wasn't till late last year that the Nintendo president confirmed a 2025 release. Now, sources have uploaded the handheld's alleged renders.
Courtesy of OnLeaks (via 91mobiles), we now have our first glimpse of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. The source claimed the new model will be larger than its predecessors and feature an 8.4-inch display. For reference, the base Nintendo Switch features a 6.2-inch screen. The Switch OLED sports a slightly larger 7-inch OLED display, while the Switch Lite packs a smaller 5.5-inch LCD screen.
Nintendo could equip the new model with an OLED display, so gamers can expect better image quality. Moreover, all three predecessors have a max screen resolution of just 1280x720. With the Switch 2, Nintendo is almost guaranteed to at least go for Full HD or Full HD+.
The Switch 2 is also expected to have larger dimensions to accommodate the larger screen. According to the source, the new model will measure 271 x 116.4 x 31.4mm. In comparison, the current largest Switch OLED measures 241 x 102 x 14mm. As you can tell, the thickness of the unit is more than double. This is likely due to bigger components inside the console, but the exact one is unknown. In our opinion, this could be due to a larger cooling system or battery.
At a glance, the new model may not look all that different in design. However, there are a few notable changes. First, the edges of the controllers are more curved. Also, the buttons now have a dome shape. Thirdly, the trigger buttons have also been redesigned. Lastly, the kickstand is now a U-shaped handlebar that pops out from the bottom.
Mind you, the Nintendo Switch 2 won't be out anytime soon. An announcement should be out in March 2025, but the official launch may only happen later in the year. Until then, stay tuned to TechNave for more updates.
