When a gaming company is ready to release a new console, we often ask if it's backwards compatible. This is important because nobody wants to buy a new console if they can't play games they've already purchased. Fortunately, the Nintendo Switch 2 won't have that problem.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. Yesterday, the company posted its latest Corporate Management Policy Briefing, which stated that Nintendo Switch software will be playable on the successor to the Nintendo Switch. The briefing also said that fans can "choose their next purchase from a broad selection of titles". This could refer to launch titles for the eventual Nintendo Switch 2.

While no other details on the new console were shared, Furukawa did confirm that the successor will be out "during this fiscal year". For reference, the current fiscal year for Nintendo ends on 31 March 2025. In other words, the new Switch successor could launch within the next 5 months. The exact date wasn't given, but the briefing confirmed that an announcement will be posted at a later date.
Nintendo fans can start getting excited for official news, which could be posted before the year ends. Until then, stay tuned to TechNave for more updates on this.
