Nintendo Switch will no longer have X integration due to exorbitant fees

Do you often take screencaps on your game console to post straight to social media? If that's you, then this news might be relevant to you. Yesterday, Nintendo announced that Switch users will no longer connect straight to X. But why?

As of 10 June 2024, users will no longer be able to post screenshots or video clips to X (or Twitter) from the Nintendo Switch's Album app. The exact reason was not specified, but the reason is believed to be due to a change in the platform's API. This change has resulted in higher monthly fees in platform integration, more than USD 42000 per month (~RM199052) or more. For your info, the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox already removed X integration last year.

Now, it should be noted that users can still post screenshots or video clips to X. However, you now have to jump through a few extra hoops to do so. Instead of posting directly to the platform, you'd have to transfer the file to another device (like your phone) to make your post. Besides X, Nintendo has also confirmed that Facebook integration will be "discontinued at a later date". For a list of changes, check the Nintendo announcement.

What do you think of the news, should Nintendo stay on the platform for its marketing potential or X just charge companies a fair price? Please share your thoughts in the comments on our Facebook page, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
