It was only a matter of time before Nintendo raised the price of the Switch 2. On its official website, the company officially confirmed a price revision for the newest console across multiple global markets, citing ongoing market condition changes and rising operational costs.
Beginning 1 September 2026 in the United States, the Nintendo Switch 2 will see its retail price increase from US$449.99 to US$499.99. Similar price adjustments are also planned across Canada, Europe, Australia, and several Asian markets (including Malaysia).
Rising Component Costs Continue Impacting Gaming Hardware
Nintendo stated that the adjustment is being made in response to medium and long-term market pressures. Industry analysts believe the increase is heavily tied to rising semiconductor, memory, and component costs driven by global AI hardware demand and broader supply chain pressures. The move follows similar pricing adjustments seen across the gaming and technology industries over the past two years, as companies struggle with increasing manufacturing costs for advanced hardware.
Original Nintendo Switch Pricing Remains Unchanged in Some Markets
According to Nintendo, pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family will remain unchanged in certain regions for now. However, Japan will also see revisions affecting the OLED, Lite, and standard Switch models beginning later this month. Nintendo is also revising pricing for Nintendo Switch Online memberships in selected markets, including Japan and South Korea.
What This Means for Malaysia
For Malaysia, the announcement could eventually translate into higher retail pricing for imported Nintendo Switch 2 units sold through local gaming retailers and parallel import channels. On the Nintendo Malaysia website, no official pricing has been revealed.
Although Nintendo does not officially operate a dedicated Malaysian eShop region, the country remains a strong market for Nintendo hardware through regional distributors and grey import sellers. Any global MSRP increase usually impacts Malaysian pricing relatively quickly due to currency exchange fluctuations, import costs, and retailer adjustments.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently priced at RM2488 as a standalone version. With the pricing revision, it could potentially move closer to the RM2700 range locally, depending on configuration, bundles, and import source.
Nintendo Still Betting on Strong Demand
Despite the higher pricing, Nintendo appears confident that demand for the Switch 2 will remain strong, especially with upcoming first-party releases and continued momentum from the Nintendo ecosystem.
The company’s challenge now will be maintaining the balance between premium hardware positioning and the broader accessibility that helped make the original Switch one of the best-selling gaming consoles globally. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
