Nintendo said the Switch OLED Joy-Con controllers are the best version (but still working on the 'drifting' issue)

Today is the day of the official Nintendo Switch OLED launch globally. In case you missed it, the official price is RM1699 and you can probably find some in our local gaming stores across the nation. In conjunction with the launch, Nintendo also released an interview with the Switch OLED developers on their thoughts of the new console variant.

During the long interview with Ko Shiota, the Head of the Technology Developer Division and Toru Yamashita from the same department, one of the features they mentioned was the Joy-Con controllers improvement. In case you didn't know, Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers tend to have a 'drifting' issue after a long time of usage. It's also arguably the most common issue among the gamers which they have been asking for a solution.

But according to Yamashita, the Technology Developer team have been continuing to make improvements albeit not as obvious. He also said that among the other features, the analogue stick parts have been improved since the original Switch launch and are still being worked upon. Once the team have seen the improvement effects, they would incorporate them into all the Joy-Con controllers including the Switch Lite and the Switch Pro Controller.

To add on, Shiota gave an example that the Joy-Con controller will eventually wear and tear like a car tire. Using the same concept, the analogue sticks which are constantly rotating around will wear out. It seems that Nintendo doesn't have a definitive solution to the issue so the only option they have now is to improve the durability, operability and reliability.

Besides the Joy-Con controllers, both developers also talked about why they have decided to use an OLED display now, alongside the memory storage, battery and others.
