No more PS3 or PS Vita games from August 2026

Besides the cessation of physical PlayStation game sales on disc starting in 2028, Sony also announced that it will begin closing its digital game stores for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The PS3 game store closures will be phased in, starting in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua in August 2026. This will be followed by closures in South American and Middle Eastern countries in late 2026, before full global closures for both PS3 and PS Vita stores take effect in July 2027.

Digital games will no longer be available for purchase

Sony stated that the PlayStation Store on both consoles is being closed because it can no longer support modern commerce systems, including newer payment processing standards. Once the stores close, purchasing new games will no longer be possible. However, previously purchased digital PS3 and PS Vita games can still be downloaded.

Personally, we could see how this could upset PS3 fans in Malaysia. However, all good things must come to an end, and the same can be said about the PS3 era. If you are a fan of classic video games, the only way to get the game in the near future is to buy it now before the price increases. What are your thoughts on the news?
