If you are a fan of the Apple iPhone series, this news might surprise you. According to a tipster, the Cupertino company will no longer produce Touch ID chips starting from the Apple iPhone 16. That said, what should you know about it?

According to a circuit expert on Weibo via MacRumors, Apple has closed down most of the equipment used to produce the Touch Chip for the iPhone. The tipster also says the last few components were made for the iPhone SE and Apple has no plans to revive it. Interestingly, Apple has yet to confirm if the fingerprint scanning technology will return for the iPhone 16.

In addition, the reports say the fourth generation iPhone SE could feature the Face ID technology instead of the Touch ID feature. However, there are also rumours saying that Apple is working on a new display fingerprint technology for the 2026 lineup. Plus, the new iPhone 16 could feature a new chip made by a distinct manufacturing process compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. Perhaps, Apple is trying to cut production costs.

We have yet to confirm other details and why this happened. Moreover, it’s a bit too early to speculate about the iPhone 16. At this point, we can only wait.
