
A total of 20 supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies will stop using plastic bags completely in their 7601 business premises nationwide, starting October 1, 2024 . So, what should you know about it?
For your information, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said among those participating in the initiative were 99 Speedmart, Aeon, 7-Eleven, TF Value Mart, Lotus, Watson, Guardian and so on. Through the implementation of the initiative, Nga said the use of 200 million plastic bags per year is expected to be reduced.
In addition, this can address the negative effects of plastic use, especially single-use plastic bags, on the environment and solid waste management in Malaysia. This initiative is also in line with the country's desire to achieve circular economic transformation by maximising the efficiency of resource use and minimising waste generation.
