Nokia, a brand synonymous with telecommunications and mobile phones, is now separating its artificial intelligence (AI) business into two segments. So, what should you know about it?
A restructuring to manage increasing operating costs
For your information, Nokia will be separated into a network infrastructure business offering AI services and data centres, while the telecom network operations business will become a mobile infrastructure unit. Through this restructuring, Nokia predicts operating profit will increase to EUR3.2 billion (~RM15.5 billion) by 2028.
Moreover, the use of AI will be integrated into the 6G infrastructure being developed. The integration of AI into the telecommunications world is needed to support more AI devices that require high data transmission. Last month, NVIDIA made a USD1 billion (~RM4.13 billion) investment in Nokia to develop a 6G AI network.
Nokia ventures into the military industry
In addition, Nokia Defence was also launched, featuring Nokia's network and easy-to-use technology to offer military-grade services. The European Union (EU) is doubling down on banning Chinese-made equipment, especially Huawei and ZTE, in member countries due to security concerns. The void left by these two telecommunications giants will be filled by European telecommunications companies.
