Last night, Nothing has officially unveiled the Ear (3), the next-generation True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds in Malaysia. Marking a first for the brand, Ear (3) incorporates metal components into its iconic transparent aesthetic while introducing Super Mic technology, advanced noise cancellation, and longer battery life.

What is the Super Mic?

The Super Mic is a dual-microphone system built directly into the charging case. Using advanced ambient-filtering technology, it suppresses up to 95 dB of surrounding noise, ensuring crystal-clear voice pickup in any environment.

By pressing the TALK button on the case, users can activate Super Mic for instant conversations or even record voice notes directly to Essential Space, which are automatically transcribed (when paired with Nothing OS). Each earbud also features three directional microphones paired with a bone-conduction Voice Pick-up Unit (VPU). This detects subtle jaw and ear canal vibrations, enabling precise voice capture even in noisy environments.

Combined with multi-channel AI environmental noise cancellation, trained on over 20 million hours of real-world audio, the system achieves over 25 dB of wind noise reduction. On top of this, Ear (3) offers Real-time Adaptive Noise Cancellation of up to 45 dB, updating every 600 ms to adapt to ambient changes, while monitoring fit-related leakage every 1,875 ms for consistent isolation.

Other Upgrades

Powered by an upgraded 12mm dynamic driver with a patterned diaphragm, Ear (3) delivers a 20% larger radiating area than its predecessor. The result is deeper bass (+4–6 dB), crisper treble (+4 dB), and a wider soundstage with clean mids — all optimised by the adaptive noise cancellation system.

Additionally, each earbud is equipped with a 55mAh battery, which delivers up to 10 hours of continuous playback (a 90-minute increase over Ear), or 38 hours with the case. A quick 10-minute USB-C charge adds another 10 hours, while wireless charging provides extra convenience.

With Bluetooth 5.4 and LDAC support, users get high-resolution audio and stable connections. Latency is reduced to under 120 ms, making it ideal for gaming and video applications.

The earbuds also support Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair, and iOS for seamless cross-platform pairing. Through the Nothing X app, users can customise controls and even integrate Essential Space or ChatGPT access directly from the buds. Both the earbuds and case also come with an IP54 rating, making them resistant to dust, sweat, and splashes.

Design: Transparent Meets Metal

Staying true to Nothing’s identity, Ear (3) maintains its transparent shell while debuting polished metal accents for a more premium finish. A custom MIM antenna (just 0.35 mm thick) enhances connectivity, boosting total radiated power by 15% and signal sensitivity by 20%.

The charging case is equally refined, crafted from 100% recycled aluminium via 27 precision processes. Using nano-injection moulding, Nothing eliminates glue and fuses metal with plastic seamlessly for a compact, durable unibody.
