Previously, we reported that the Nothing Phone (3), the company’s first ‘premium’ and ‘true flagship’ smartphone, will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC. Now, the company has revealed why it opted for the chipset, which has to do with software support.

Nothing Phone (3) will get 7 years of software support

Taking to X, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis touted the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC as a major step up from the Phone (2)’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. He then replied to a question on the platform about why the Phone (3) opted for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Evangelidis said that the latter has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP, which limits software support to only 4 OS updates and 4 years of security updates. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 allows for 5 OS updates and 7 years of security updates.

Previously, Nothing CEO and co-founder Carl Pei revealed that the Phone (3) will be priced around GBP800 or ~RM3452. He also touted the upcoming smartphone as the company’s first ‘true flagship’.
