Nothing features Android 15 Beta 1 on the Phone (2a) but not for its flagship phone

Android 15 is generating excitement with more details expected from Google at the upcoming I/O event. Ahead of this announcement, several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have already confirmed their participation in the Android 15 Developer Preview Program. That said, what should you know about it?

For your information, Nothing officially joins the ranks of Android partners providing early access to Android 15, specifically through the Nothing Phone (2a ). This mid-range device allows app developers and advanced users to install Android 15 Beta 1, facilitating early testing and feedback.

In addition, the beta build for Nothing Phone (2a) includes support for the Glyph SDK along Nothing-specific elements like wallpapers and boot animations. However, it lacks other pre-installed apps and customisations such as Nothing X, Weather, Launcher, Recorder and Widget. This streamlined approach emphasises that the build is aimed at developers rather than casual users looking for the full Nothing experience.

Although it is possible to upgrade to Android 15 Beta 1, it is not recommended for daily use due to possible instability and bugs. Users should back upup their data before proceeding with the installation. Interestingly, Nothing is using the Nothing Phone (2a) which is a mid-range device for the beta program instead of the Phone (2), their flagship device, taking a different step from the usual practice for such previews.

Overall, those interested in the stable release of Android 15 on Nothing devices will have to wait until the OS is officially released and customised by Nothing for their devices. We have yet to confirm other details or the Malaysia release date for the device. So, we should wait for more confirmation from Nothing.
