When it comes to the GPUs on notebooks, we often see the Nvidia MX series. However, a large majority of laptops are still sporting either Intel's integrated GPUs and more are beginning to feature AMD's Vega series. Now, Nvidia may be ready to grab more market share from the two company with a new Turing-based mobile GPU.
According to TechRadar, the new GPU will be based on the TU117 GPU that's used for the desktop version of the GeForce GTX 1650. This GPU has been codenamed N18S-G5, which makes it the successor to the Pascal-based Nvidia GeForce MX350 (N17S-G5). Allegedly, this mobile GPU will be available in the second half of 2020, launching around the same time as Intel's Tiger Lake CPUs.
Also, the new GPU is expected to have PCIe Gen4 level of speeds, GDDR6 video memory, and a TDP of 25W. In essence, it's a modified version of the GTX 1650. Of course, like the desktop GPU it's based on, there's supposed to be a second variant that features weaker specs. This second variant will use GDDR5 video memory instead.
These are expected to perform much better than the integrated GPU for the Intel Tiger Lake series CPUs, which is great news for those who need a laptop to do graphics-intensive work.
