On 6 July 2023, the OPPO Reno10 5G series was launched in Malaysia carrying three variants - the OPPO Reno10 5G, OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G, and OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G. In this article, we'll review the Reno10 Pro 5G variant in terms of its design, the specifications offered and its performance. Let's get it started.
Design - A new thicc camera design
Design-wise, there aren't many changes compared to the Reno8 Pro 5G. You still have the selfie camera positioned top-centre of the display, while the speaker is on the top. As for colours, the Glossy Purple unit we received looks great. However, it attracts quite a bit of fingerprint smudges. If you are not interested in this colour, OPPO also has a Silvery Grey colourway.

With the Reno8 Pro 5G, what caught our attention was the rear camera design and its thickness. As you can see, the 50MP main camera is the one in the largest circle, followed by a 32MP and 8MP sensor for the telephoto portrait and ultrawide camera. The LED flashlight is sandwiched between the main and secondary cameras. Of course, you'll have to use a protective cover if you can't stand the thick camera bump.
Tech Specs and Features - Just a mid-range tier phone at best
Here are the official specifications of the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G below:
- Snapdragon 778G chipset
- 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM
- 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage

- 6.7-inch 3D AMOLED display (FHD+, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, AGC DT-Star2 cover glass)
- Triple rear camera - 50MP IMX890 (main, OIS) + 32MP IMX709 (telephoto portrait) + 8MP (ultrawide)
- 32MP IMX709 front camera

- Supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2, various audio codecs (SBC, AAC, aptx, aptx-HD, LDAC, and LHDC), NFC, and IR Remote Control connectivity
- 4600mAh battery with SUPERVOOC 80W charging
- ColorOS 13.1 based on Android 13
Just like the design, there isn't much to talk about the features of the Reno10 Pro 5G. If anything, you can take advantage of the RAM Expansion of up to 12GB, getting up to 24GB of RAM in total. The display also supports up to 1 billion colours and 950 nits peak brightness which is great too.
As usual, there are a few bloatware apps like HotApps, HotGames, and Hot Free Games in ColorOS 13.1. The good news is: You can hide them if you don't like seeing these apps cluttering your home screen. However, they can't be removed for good.
Performance - It's all about the cameras
As a mid-range phone, the Reno10 Pro 5G does fine, and we are satisfied with its mobile gaming and camera performance. We booted up Mortal Kombat (albeit it's an old mobile game) alongside Genshin Impact to test its gaming performance, and both can be played at the highest graphics settings without too much problem. If you like, you can also use Hyperboost mode to improve its gaming performance.

Performance settings for gaming
However, the battery drops quickly (approximately 15%) after playing games for just 30 minutes. The phone also started to become hot. While this seems like an issue, we remind you that this is not a phone for gaming. Instead, it's a very camera-centric device (we'll get to the camera performance in a bit). The speakers can produce clear sound even at the highest volume. But we think the audio would sound better if the bass is improved.
OPPO Malaysia has been marketing the Reno10 series aggressively as the portrait expert and for a good reason. The telephoto camera takes great portrait photos if you know how to snap those, as it can provide detailed shots easily. Besides portrait photos, extreme close-ups shots were impressive as well.
The cameras are also capable of producing cinematic shots at night. The colours come out great, and there's not too much noise. Video recording in 4K@60FPS is also commendable, with good clarity, colour, exposure and dynamic range. Selfie lovers should love the front selfie snapper too. Overall, the Reno10 Pro 5G's photography performance is good enough.

Conclusion - Reasonable price for the camera performance
The OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G at RM2199 is quite good for a camera phone, but it shouldn't be used for mobile gaming. This generation saw some areas of improvement, especially in mobile photography. If you're a mobile photography enthusiast, you should try this phone.
As we mentioned earlier, the downside of this device is that it heats up quickly, and the battery drops fast when playing games. If you want alternatives, consider the Xiaomi 12T at RM1999. That phone has a 5000mAh battery supporting 120W HyperCharge and a 108MP + 8MP + 2MP triple rear camera. Another option is the OnePlus Nord 3 5G, which has the same RM2199 price tag.
Undoubtedly, OPPO is best known as a 'Portrait Expert' producing quality images for users, so will the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G be one of your choices? That's entirely up to you. Stay tuned for more tech gadget reviews at TechNave.com.
