OPPO Reno8 Series 5G Malaysia release: Dimensity 8100 SoC and MariSilicon X NPU from RM2399

OPPO Malaysia today released its latest Reno Series smartphones in Malaysia which comprises of the Reno8 5G and Reno8 Pro 5G. Equipped with OPPO’s first self-developed, dedicated imaging NPU, the MariSilicon X, the company claims that the Reno8 Pro 5G is capable of shooting ultra-clear portraits in even the most challenging scenarios.

First up, the Reno8 5G features a 6.4-inch 90Hz AMOLED display with a 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. It’s light too at just 179g and has a thickness of 7.67mm.

Under the hood, the Reno8 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The device also features a 4500mAh battery with support for OPPO’s 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging technology, as well as a Super-Conductive Vapour Chamber Liquid Cooling System.

OPPO claims that the the device can charge up to 50 percent in 11 minutes with the included charger and up to 2 hours of mobile gaming with just a 5-minute charge. There’s also a Battery Health Engine that safeguards the battery lifespan, which has also passed TÜV Rheinland’s Safe Fast-Charge System Certification for outstanding overall safety performance.

In terms of imaging, the Reno8 5G features Dual Sony Flagship Sensors. At the front, there’s an IMX709 sensor and at the rear, there’s an IMX766 sensor.

For the former, it is a next-generation RGBW 32MP camera sensor customised by OPPO. It ensures 60% increase for light intake and 35% improvement for noise reduction when compared with traditional RGGB sensors.

Moreover, together with OPPO’s self-designed Quadra Binning algorithm, every selfie will look dynamically bright and sharp no matter in lowlight or backlight scenes. Together with DOL-HDR technology embedded on the sensor, the IMX709 enables front camera to easily capture high-quality, professional-looking selfies in any scenarios.

As for the rear camera's IMX766 sensor, delivers an enhanced portrait experience with its large 1/1.56-inch sensor size and features like All Pixel Omni-Directional PDAF and DOL-HDR.

Meanwhile, the Reno8 Pro 5G sports a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a 93.4 percent screen-to-body ratio. It supports 1 billion colours, HDR10+, SGS Low Motion Blur, SGS Low Blue Light and is HD & HDR certified for Amazon Prime and Netflix.

The Reno8 Pro 5G is also the thinnest Reno Series to date, measuring at just 7.34mm in thickness and weighing 183g. Under the hood, the device features the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of storage.

In terms of cameras, the Reno8 Pro 5G features the same camera sensors as the Reno8, but it is supplemented by the MariSilicon X. Additionally, the IMX709 on the Reno8 Pro 5G supports AutoFocus on the front camera for the first time, enabling 2x zoom when taking selfies. With a minimum focal distance of 15cm, it is now possible to capture super close-up shots using Reno8 Pro 5G’s front camera, offering unprecedented detail in selfies.

OPPO further asserted that the MariSilicon X is built on industry leading DSA architecture and is able to deliver 18 trillion operations per second of dedicated image processing power.

Furthermore, the NPU can perform lossless real-time 4K AI processing and up to 20-bit HDR fusion in the RAW domain while achieving up to 8dB signal-to-noise ratio for images. Hence, the Reno8 Pro 5G is capable of 4K ultra Night Video and 4K Ultra HDR Video.

Other notable features of both smartphones include system-level optimisations tailored to gaming such as Background Update, 1000Hz Ultra Touch Response and 90Hz high-refresh mode for PUBG Mobile. Both devices run on Android 12 via ColorOS 12.1 that has features such as Air Gestures and Multi-Screen Connect.

The Reno8 5G and Reno8 Pro 5G is priced at RM2399 and RM3499 respectively in Malaysia. Consumers can pre-order from now until 29 July 2022 and be entitled to free gifts worth up to RM1486.
