After collaborating with Sony to build the IMX766 image sensor for the Reno 5 Pro+ 5G, a tipster revealed that OPPO is working with the Japanese company again for another custom image sensor. This time, the image sensor is rumoured to be called IMX789 and it could remain exclusive to OPPO for a certain period.

For now, it is unsure which OPPO's upcoming smartphone will be equipped with the sensor. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch the Find X3 series in Q1 2021, but the tipster has claimed that it may not feature the IMX789. The other possibility could be the Reno 6 series that may debut in mid-2021.

The Sony IMX766 image sensor from the Reno 5 Pro+ has brought a top-notch photography experience in low-light conditions by being 1/1.56-inch in size and offering a unit pixel area of 1.0μm. Compared to the 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 lens, the IMX766 can intake 63.8 percent more light as well. Therefore, we can expect the Sony IMX789 to have an even better performance compared to all these.
