OPPO set to unveil new smart speaker with Breeno AI voice assistant

If there's one thing many don't know about OPPO, it would be that the brand used to dabble in high-end audio headphones. Back in 2014, OPPO's flagship PM-1 and PM-2 planar magnetic headphones were quite highly rated. Although the brand hasn't focused on high-end audio products since then, a new teaser poster is hinting that there's a new audio product coming.

The teaser poster (via Shenzenware) itself doesn't tell us much, except the date of 7 April 2020 and the words "Listen, here it comes." From the image itself, we are either looking at a top view of the speaker unit or the speaker's diaphragm. However, this might not be a flagship headphone or wireless earbuds. Instead, speculation suggests that this will be OPPO's first smart speaker and that it will use the company's Breeno voice assistant.

In terms of other audio products, OPPO launched the Enco Free wireless earbuds in January 2020 and there was the Enco Q1 that was available since October last year. Neither of these come with the Breeno voice assistant, however, so this rumoured smart speaker will have an advantage in that area. As for what it looks like and its specs, we'll just have to wait for the reveal later today.

If this is indeed a smart speaker, OPPO will join the likes of Google, Amazon, and Apple in the voice assistant market. It'll be interesting to see how it performs compared to the competition.
