In other news relating to rising phone prices, OPPO is set to increase the prices of some of its existing smartphones following a sharp rise in global memory component costs. The adjustment will take effect starting 16 March 2026, according to a notice posted on the company’s official online store.

Price Adjustments Begin in Mid-March

The price changes will primarily affect selected devices already on sale, with adjustments scheduled to begin at midnight on 16 March. Reports indicate that the increase will mainly apply to lower and mid-range smartphones in OPPO’s lineup, including models from the A and K series.

While OPPO has confirmed the price adjustments, the company has not disclosed the exact increase for each device. Some reports suggest that the final price changes may vary depending on the sales channel or specific configuration. Notably, flagship models in the Find and Reno series are not expected to be affected by the changes for now.

OnePlus Devices May Also See Price Increases

The price adjustments are not limited to OPPO-branded devices. Smartphones from OnePlus, which operates under the same corporate group, are also expected to see similar price increases starting on the same date. This coordinated adjustment reflects the growing pressure on manufacturers to offset rising production costs as component prices continue to climb across the industry.

Global Memory Shortage Driving Costs Higher

The primary reason behind the price hike is the ongoing surge in memory chip prices. Increased demand for memory components from artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centers has tightened global supply. As a result, smartphone manufacturers are facing significantly higher procurement costs for DRAM and NAND flash chips. Industry analysts say this has forced several brands to reconsider their pricing strategies.

In fact, the situation could lead to one of the largest collective price adjustments in the smartphone industry in recent years, with other Chinese brands such as Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor also reportedly considering similar moves.

Smartphone Prices Could Continue Rising in 2026

OPPO’s decision highlights a broader shift happening across the smartphone industry. For years, component prices generally declined over time, allowing manufacturers to offer better hardware at lower prices. However, the current surge in memory costs is reversing that trend, meaning smartphone buyers may see more price increases across multiple brands throughout 2026 if supply constraints continue.
