Olympic Medals for Tokyo 2020 are made out of 6.21 million recycled electronics

Tokyo 2020’s organizing committee has unveiled the designs of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Olympic medals which will be awarded to the winners of their respective sport. The medals will be made out of materials extracted from 6.21 million pieces of electronics. The extraction resulted in a total of 32kg of gold, 3500kg of silver as well as 2200kg of bronze metal.

The design of the medals was done by Junichi Kawanishi, who's design stood out from more than 400 other designs done by professionals and students.
