5G is all the "hype" now and it's safe to say that most smartphone brands will launch a 5G phone model, even though the technology is not available yet. That applies the same for OnePlus, where a recent interview with OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau has just confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 8 series will indeed have 5G and also a bit more expensive than usual.

During the interview, Pete Lau said that the company have been investing in 5G for a very long time and a goal that they are very much committed to. In other words, 2020 is the year that OnePlus is going all-in with 5G, which means the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will have 5G support. Speaking of the phone name, the CEO didn't exactly confirm the name but given the tradition, we are quite confident that that's what the upcoming flagships will be called.

On the other hand, with 5G technology integrated into the phones, that also means the price will shoot up. This is something that Pete Lau didn't deny, as he said "We've always had a position in creating the best product possible at the best price point. The new technology does add costs so costs have risen in comparison to 4G products." Despite this, he assured the fans that the vanilla OnePlus 8 will have an affordable price tag.

By the way, the OnePlus series has been getting more expensive by the year so that's inevitable. The last one was at a starting price of RM2999 and by then, the company were no longer recognized as the Flagship Killer as they used to be. Nonetheless, the performance and quality are still on par with several flagships so that's something.

Rumours have it that there could be a lite version but we haven't really heard much about it. Until then, stay tuned for more OnePlus news in early April where they will unveil the latest models. Only at TechNave.com.
