The war for attention never ends, as smartphone companies keep coming up with new ideas to wow its fanbase. For OnePlus, it's not surprising to see something new being implemented on variant models. This time around, it seems like we'll be seeing a OnePlus 8T variant with a cool idea.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau made the announcement yesterday on Twitter, revealing that the company is working on a new concept idea for a OnePlus 8T variant. Dubbed "Concept 8T", this phone features a layer on the back that can change colours. Allegedly, OnePlus achieved by sending some voltage to the metal oxide film, which will then change from a silver-grey colour to dark blue.
The OnePlus 8T is an amazing overall smartphone, but we’re always exploring cool new technologies—not necessarily to bring to market, but just to see what else is possible. Check out our latest experiment: the Concept 8T. pic.twitter.com/jmJMVcyBMT

According to a separate video from OnePlus, this colour changing is not arbitrary. Instead, the feature responds to certain things like incoming calls or gestures. Besides that, this OnePlus 8T Concept variant will come with mmWave, which is a short-range high-bandwidth 5G tech that allows a device to track objects. It should be noted that OnePlus is just using the concept model to test new technologies, so don't expect an actual OnePlus 8T Concept to go on sale.
Nevertheless, it's always interesting to see what smartphone companies are trying out. Who knows, we might just see something that becomes the trend for 2021. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
