OnePlus pulls out making smartwatches to focus more on smartphones

Yes, you read that right. OnePlus is definitely scrapping the idea of manufacturing smartwatches, and will focus more on smartphones instead. This was from a recent interview with WSJ, remarked by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau.

According to Mr. Lau, the reason why OnePlus is pulling out of the plans is because the company chose not to put it into production. Here's is what he has to say:

“We had completed the design but we still decided to scrap it. We have to be focused”, said Mr. Lau.

He also mentioned the Chinese smartphone market is “very cruel” environment, adding that he'd do “anything to survive”. However, he remained optimistic about the smartphone market in China, since many companies will try to target a different consumer group, and OnePlus will focus on its biggest strength which is offering cheap high-end smartphones.

To give you a picture of how fierce the competition is in China, smartphone shipment has slowed down from 62.5% (2013) to 2.5% (2015), thanks to the increased number of companies getting on board of the bandwagon in the smartphone market.
